    Getting a SIM card

Getting a SIM card in Italy is not so easy nor too hard. First, you will need the codice fiscale or Italian TAX code. You can request one from your Italian Embassy back home but if you failed to do so like me, the secretariat of the course will help you get one when in Torino. The codice fiscale is a unique code with character and number generated from your name, birthday and place of birth. If you are pretty sure that there is no one with the same first and last name, born at the same day and coming from the same country then you can use online generator…

    Accommodation and pre-departure preparation

As I mentioned before, I got a free accommodation on campus. It worth €4950 and I see no reason why I should give up and find somewhere else to live. After I came to ITCILO and talk with my classmate, who both live on and off campus, I found that for those who came from less income country, likely got both 50% subsidize of tuition fee and free accommodation on campus. I have no idea if it is possible to get 50% discount in tuition fee only and live outside, I didn’t see accommodation choice when applying so it might be good idea to ask for when applying (please give…

(Which I found out later that they just scared you to study) The course will provide a compulsory reading list and textbook in PDF file. Some are clear but some are scanned which is…

    The result came!

I got this exciting email on 15 Sep. As I am pretty sure that I will get admitted anyway (because I have heard that they prefer people with work experience, especially with labour organization), the thing I really want to know is “do I get a scholarship or not”. My country is in “upper middle income countries by ODA” (my income is definitely not upper middle at all), I have a very low chance to get one but fortunately the committee grant me a free accommodation on site and I would only pay full tuition fee. For me €7000 is hurting my saving badly but investing in education now seems…

    Applying for Master

I have been working 10+ years for Ministry of Labour since my graduation. It is a long time and I do really need a break from my job but yet still don’t want to quit, a study leave seem to be a perfect choice. As I am 30+ years old and a last touch of an academic is more than 10 years ago, I am really not in a position to compete with a fresh young graduates. My colleague had recommended me to check out on ITCILO’s courses sometime ago and I found one that is really attractive, Master in Applied Labour Economics for Development or MALED. There are several advantage for doing…
